IDAHOBIT Day stands for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Discrimination against Intersex people and Transphobia.

The day originated because 31 years ago (May 17th 1990) the World Health Organisation removed being gay as a disease. Not that long ago being apart of the LGBTQIA+ was illegal and something that was thought was a sickness. Although, still to this day around 75% of the LGBTQIA+ community have reported that they have faced discrimination.

There are 69 countries where same sex marriage is still illegal, and in some places you could get the death penalty for just being who you are.

Not even five years ago was when same sex marriage was legalised in Australia. It was the 9th of December when Australia fully legalised being apart of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Still, people of the LGTBQIA+ community and allies are fighting for equal rights and celebrating who they are every June for pride month.
